The interviews will be finished soon, as I've set tentative dates for three of the members, and I'm working on getting a date for the fourth. Once the interviews have been filmed, the editing process can be finished. Since I've done all the non-interview editing I can possibly do, the project should wrap up nicely about a day or two after the last interview has been conducted. I'm looking forward to showing off the final version of the film.

I've completed editing on all of my footage from the non-interview tape, and have now moved on the scheduling the interviews. As soon as those are done, I can finish the editing process.

I'm nearly done with the whole project, and it's refreshingly satisfying to watch the fruit of my labors while I'm editing. I can't wait to show it to the band, who I hope will show it to everyone who would ever want to see it.

The editing process is continuing. I'm sifting through all my concert footage of Josh Ridings Band, and deciding where it should go. While I have many songs recorded, my favorite parts are when Josh gives what I like to call a "mini speech". These "mini speeches" are great spots to place in between songs and interviews. I'm starting to really get a feel on how the film will look, which is quite exciting.

This week was particularly disappointing, because after I edited a trailer, I realized that there was was a watermark from the trial version of the software I was using on the finished product, therefore making it not quite ready to put up. On the bright side, I've got the ideas and footage laid out for editing, as soon as I find another video converter. (I really hate the Mac/Windows incompatability issue.)

I was planning to have the trailer up this week, but Mac-Windows technological problems have slowed me down a little. I've got the software I need now, and should be able to continue everything else the way I planned.

The interview questions are nearly done and I hope to film them one day very soon. Once that's done, everything I need will be filmed and I'll just need to edit it all together.

This week began the long editing process! I've started sifting through all the live footage that I have, trying to separate songs into either separate pieces or sections that I plan to use as transitions. I'm also trying to decide what song to use in the trailer, so feel free to comment on that if you like.

The footage is on my computer and the editing process has (almost) begun. There's some technical things I have to do before I can actually start editing, but they won't take long. I'm excited to have the trailer up as soon as it finishes, and I'll be sure to post a link to where you can find it on the internet. (In all likelihood, YouTube.)

I've also started to develop the questions that I'll ask the members of Josh Ridings Band in their interviews. All four members will have the same questions, with the encouragement to be as candid and silly/serious as they want to be. I feel that if I capture the essence of who they are and what their message is, they should be allowed to be goofy if they feel satisfied with it. I can't wait for some of the answers....

I'll be starting the editing process very soon. In other interesting news, Josh Ridings Band premiered a new song at the Haiti benefit, and I caught it on camera! I'm currently the only person with any kind of recording of that song, and I plan on using the song as a centerpiece in the film.

Monday, January 25, 2010

This week isn't that big for my project. I'll be taping the Haiti benefit at the Channel, and capturing the previous footage I had to my computer. Pretty much the same thing I blogged last week. I'll be sure to have something interesting next week.

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

I've made my final-concert filming plans. I'll be at the Haiti benefit concert on January 28th, at the Channel in Greenville filming Josh Ridings Band (but probably not the other acts). After that, I'll begin my Charlie Rose-style interviews of Josh, John, John, and Willie (it almost sounds as good as John, Paul, George and Ringo, doesn't it?). Once I get the footage of the concerts on my computer, a trailer will come soon after.

I'm done with the research paper, as far as I know, and now it's time to work on the documentary with complete focus. I've already started talking to Josh about some ideas for the footage that he took while recording "Sing Out Loud", and I've also started to arrange ideas about the interviews. The trailer for the movie should be done as soon as I get the footage I have on my computer. It'll be up around mid-February at the latest.
